Add three or more texts, each under a ### title.
DAILWIND / RESEARCH DESKS
Stylometry Lab
Compare many texts at once with Burrows' Delta, Cosine Delta or Eder's Delta on most-frequent-word z-scores. Distances, nearest neighbours and exports.
Choose the number of most frequent words and a Delta measure.
Read the distance matrix; download distances or z-scores.
Add text or try the sample. Everything runs on this device; nothing is uploaded.
Add your texts.
Paste several texts in one box: start each with a line such as ### Chapter 1, or add TXT files (each becomes one text).
Up to 3 million characters in total. Works for any language with spaces between words.
Stylistic distances.
Darker cells are closer in style (lower Delta). The diagonal compares a text with itself.
Nearest neighbours.
Method & interpretation.
Burrows' Delta (Burrows 2002) converts relative frequencies of the most frequent words into z-scores across your texts and averages the absolute differences. Cosine Delta (Smith & Aldridge 2011; Evert et al. 2017) uses the angle between z-score vectors and is often more robust. Eder's Delta weights higher-ranked words more.
Delta shows relative stylistic similarity within the texts you supply. It is evidence for exploration, not a verdict on authorship; genre, period and length all influence results.
